PFS.100 privacy policy

Effective 7 October 2026. Applies to the PFS.100 Android app (package net.thestaticvoid.pfs100).

In short. PFS.100 does not collect, transmit, sell or share any personal information. It has no account, no analytics, no advertising and no internet permission. Everything you enter or capture stays on your device, and you can remove it at any time. The one optional purchase is handled by Google Play (see Purchases).

What the app handles, and where

All of the following is processed and stored on your device only. None of it is sent to us or to anyone else.

Data	Why	Where it goes
Camera images	Live view to recognise specimens you have logged, read barcodes and read label text. While enrolling a specimen, a few still views are kept as its reference photos.	Analysed in memory. Only the reference views you enrol are saved, in the unit's private storage banks.

Homo sapiens protection

For safety, the unit does not allow enrolling a human. It does not record a face or individual, merely detecting that a human is present. If a human is encountered in the field, avoid eye contact and back away slowly. Do not attempt to engage.

Payment information

PFS.100 has limited free use. A one-time in-app purchase, the “full licence”, unlocks unlimited specimens. The purchase is processed entirely by Google Play:

We never see or receive your payment details, name or email address. Google handles payment under Google's privacy policy and the Google Play terms.
The app asks the Google Play Store app on your device whether your Google account owns the licence, and learns only yes or no. This is how a purchase is restored after reinstalling or on a new device. The PFS.100 app itself still has no internet permission and opens no connections.
A single yes/no flag is stored on your device so the app opens unlocked when you are offline. It is removed with the app's data.

No uplink, no tracking

There are no accounts, analytics, advertising or crash-reporting services in the PFS.100.
All processing of data happens within the unit.

Keeping and deleting

Deleting a specimen removes its record, notes, photos and recognition data.
Uninstalling the app, or clearing its storage in Android settings, removes everything.
No specimen data is stored on any server or transmitted.

Your rights

Data protection laws such as the GDPR and the CCPA give people rights over personal data held about them. We do not collect or hold personal data about you, so there is nothing to access, correct or delete on our side. You control your data on your device as described above.

Changes to this policy

If the app ever changes what it does with data, this page will be updated first and the effective date above will change. Any change that involves collecting data or using a network would also be announced in the app's store listing.
